It was the second stage of the Tour De Yorkshire this weekend so I popped down to watch it at the finish line on Knavesmire Road. Conveniently they had set it up just round the corner from my house so we could just casually toddle down.
It was a grey and surprisingly cold day, but a fair crowd came to the finish to have a gaw (town was much more rammed by all accounts). Lots of people out to cheer on Bradley Wiggins’s and his new team. Wiggins was probably the only recognisable name to most after last years Tour De France stage winner in Harrogate Marcel Kittel dropped out after having his energy sapped from Rosedale Chimney and still recovering from a virus earlier in the year. Other notables like Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome were off at the Tour of Turkey and Tour de Romandie respectively. The eventual stage winner was Moreno Hofland of Team Lotto Jumbo.
Sunday’s stage starts from Leeds and quickly checking on it now they seem to have lucked out with the weather after it thrashed it down this morning.
